Each day of this trip continues to teach me something new. From one day to the next, it is about constantly learning, improving and making this trip my own. Many people can tell you the way to do something, give directions or advice, but only you can find what works for you.

For me, I am learning that lesson daily. Day 16 started off with Thunderstorm’s and white cap waves with the headwinds I was determined to paddle into. The Great Lake Huron had other ideas. After only about a 3 mile paddle, I was already wet, sore and slowly but surely watching my mood spiral downward with each wave I fought.

Day 16 I learned a valuable lesson that we are all taught as kids, which applies just as much to life on the water; patience is golden. It was time to call it a day.

After a half mile portage to my little campspot for the night, all I could do was pray for better weather on Day 17.

Were my prayers ever answered. On the water by 8:30am yesterday, the water was maybe as flat as I had seen it the whole trip. A great 9 hour paddle and a new friend in Kent made for the perfect Friday. All of my previous days struggles and disappointment disappeared.

To top it off, I was able to spend the night at the Harrisville Harbor, thanks to Tiffany and Harbor master Jim. With that came my 1st shower other than from Lake Huron itself in about a week.

I came into this trip telling myself to make it my own. With staying true to that resolution, my resolution, success will come with this trip. It just takes just a little patience.
